The Q48SX, 48V input, single output, isolated DC/DC converter, delivers up to 40A of output current, has ultra low ripple and noise and the the fastest transient response in the industry

Chungli, Taiwan, May 30, 2005 -- Delta Electronics, Inc., a world leader in power systems technology and manufacturing, introduces one of the most innovated additions to their Delphi Series of Board Mounted DC/DC Power Converters, the Q48SX Quarter Brick converter.

The Q48SX, 48V input, single output, isolated DC/DC converter, delivers up to 40A of output current (2.0V and below) or 125W in an industry standard quarter brick footprint and pinout. With optimized component placement, creative design topology and patented technologies from Delta's world wide Engineering Teams, the Delphi Series Q48SX converter delivers not only outstanding electrical and thermal performance, but has industry leading efficiencies which translate into more board space at less cost for our customer's space constrained and cost-sensitive applications.

The Q48SX converter operates from a wide input voltage range of 36V to 75V and is available in output voltages of 1.2V to 5V. The Q48SX units have a typical ripple & noise measurement of only 16mV peak-to-peak for 1.2V output at full load and only 20mVp-p for 1.5V and 1.8V outputs at full load when tested with only a 1uF ceramic output capacitor. This performance is among the best in the industry. In addition to utilizing several key patents for high density packaging, the Q48SX converter employs another patent pending technology in which the output trim pin also intelligently functions as secondary side synchronization (±10%) that further reduces the output ripple and noise. This feature would have a significant impact on those applications that are extremely noise sensitive. The Q48SX units also have the fastest transient response in the industry. When tested with no external output capacitors (compared to others tested with a 10uF tantalum plus a 1uF ceramic), the typical response is less than 60mVp-p/30uS for 100% step load and 35mVp-p/30uS for 25% step load (1.5V and 1.8V outputs).

The Delphi Series Q48SX converter comes complete with a host of industry-standard features to insure that this unit will reliably perform in the harshest environments. All modules are fully protected against abnormal input/output voltage, current, and temperature conditions and meets basic insulation requirements of EN60950. The Q48SX modules offer monotonic startup into normal or pre-biased loads and are available in both surface-mount or through-hole packages.

Sample quantities of Delta's Delphi Q48SX converters are available. In OEM quantities of 1000 pieces, the unit price is US$44. Standard lead-time for this product is from stock to 8 weeks, depending on the volume.
